Abstract

This entry begins with a brief overview of the structure and function of skin and the effects of burn injury. Burn dressings may be all that is required in a superficial wound, or they may be used as adjuncts to surgical treatment. In this latter context there has been a surge in the development of tissue-engineered products incorporating biological interactions.
