Abstract

Most important among optical tissue properties are the refractive index and the wavelength-dependent coefficients of absorption, and scattering. Together they determine the distribution of light and total transmission of the tissue at a certain wavelength. This entry focuses on these aspects of laser-tissue interaction and also touches on their biological effects.
