Abstract

The interactions of different types of proteins or cells with various solid substrates depend mainly on surface characteristics such as wettability (hydrophilicity/ hydrophobicity or surface free energy), chemistry, charge, roughness, and rigidity. The surface wettability (particularly on wettability gradient surfaces) is the focus of this entry.
