Abstract
This entry describes and summarizes the development of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) with emphasis on the visual aspects of UML modeling. It provides an overview of the entities and diagrams that comprise the static and dynamic views of models in UML. It explains the relationship of UML to Model-Driven Architecture (MDA), and illustrates how the UML profile for the Web Ontology Language (OWL) may be used to represent ontology relationships.
