Abstract

This entry describes the considerations that must be taken into account when planning a software project. Topics covered include planning scenarios, a workflow model for planning and managing software projects, foundation elements for planning a software project, and methods and techniques for planning, which include work breakdown structures (WBS), work packages, schedule networks (both critical path and PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique)), Gantt charts, and staffing profiles. Other topics covered include a technique for estimating project effort and cost, and tools for planning software projects.
