Abstract

Potentially, software quality can be improved significantly by constructing systems that are autonomic or self-managing. Such systems monitor both their internal state and their operating environment during execution, and respond, as necessary, to any significant changes or problems detected. This entry provides an overview of autonomic systems and related self-managing initiatives and considers the “PERFECT” requirements necessary in the design and operation of self-managing systems.
