This entry reviews the state of the art of model-driven approaches for establishing/maintaining consistency between code and specification. In particular, this entry considers two conceptually complementary directions: Round-Trip Engineering (RTE) and the Extreme Model-Driven Design (XMDD)-based One Thing Approach (OTA), and illustrates their corresponding methodological scope. Whereas RTE aims at generality, but is limited in its power and is characterized by a wealth of partial solutions, OTA defines a strict discipline for enforcing consistency and controlling change at the behavioral modeling level.
