Abstract

A need common in every field is to forecast and estimate. From the Oracle of Delphi, humans have the desire to anticipate what will happen. This should not be a “black art” but a science affording its roots in experience, data, transparent methodology, and common sense. This entry provides an overview on estimation, looking at its premises and possible uses of obtained results from a process improvement viewpoint, sufficiently generalized to be considered for different application domains.
