Abstract

The advanced fabrication of carbon nanotube (CNT) products such as CNT aerogels, CNT films, and CNT fibers has paved the way to leveraging the excellent mechanical and electrical properties of individual CNTs for practical macroscopic applications. Thanks to its simplicity and scalability, floating catalyst method is one of the most promising methods that can fabricate high-performance CNT macro-products with unlimited size and controlled morphologies. The CNT products with aligned structures synthesized directly from this method have shown excellent mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties with great potential in a wide range of real-life applications from electronic devices to oil absorbents. This chapter aims to present all the basic knowledge and current research progress in the floating catalyst process including the synthesis parameters, material properties, post-treatment methods, and their potential applications. The promising progress in the floating catalyst method indicates the promising research and commercial development in the upcoming future.
