Abstract

Nutrients are defined as substances used by organisms to survive, grow, and reproduce. Some of these nutrients are essential for humans, since they play important roles in biological activities. Therefore, these nutrients must be consumed as part of a daily diet. Vitamins, some minerals, phenolics, pigments, phytosterols, dietary fibers, and omega-3 fatty acids can be classified as nutrients.
