ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is the most common cancer killer in the country, killing more people than the next four cancers combined. Despite this high mortality rate, there has been no comprehensive screening strategy utilized. Recently, screening high-risk patients with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scans has been seen to decrease the mortality from lung cancer. Implementation of a screening program requires a multidisciplinary approach, involving radiologists, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, and oncologists. As lung cancer screening with LDCT becomes more prevalent, the number of lung cancer deaths should decrease significantly.
