ABSTRACT

The rapid progress of optical sectioning microscopy as confocal or light sheet microscopy in combination with vast advancements in 3D computational image processing brought a renaissance of chemical clearing techniques for biological tissues in the recent years and triggered the development of a still-growing number of novel tissue-clearing protocols. This chapter gives an overview of the most common chemical tissue clearing approaches that have been published up to 2015, as well as a brief description of these protocols.
