ABSTRACT

Infertility is characterized by the failure to establish a clinical pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse, or is due to impairment of a person’s capacity to reproduce either as an individual or with their partner (Zegers-Hochschild et al. 2017; NICE 2017). Primary infertility refers to the situation of never having achieved a clinical pregnancy, whereas secondary infertility refers to not being able to achieve a second clinical pregnancy, having previously achieved a first clinical pregnancy (Zegers-Hochschild et al. 2017).
