Voice user interfaces are becoming integrated into more and more products and users are now widely exposed to them. Smart speakers are one of the most recent examples of a consumer product that uses voice and, possibly combined with a screen, can be a useful tool for obtaining information, controlling smart home products or even playing a role in supporting people’s well-being. This chapter reports on case studies of the use of digital assistants in home settings. It reports on the frequency of use, ease of learning and possible implications for user support and the design of future voice interfaces.
