Technologies enable people to access information and services that were previously unavailable to them, opening new opportunities for income generation, personal development and engagement with the community and political decision-making. This paper presents five case studies developed by the author’s collaboration, where mixed research methods, either quantitative or qualitative were used to gather and analyze data obtained from participants before, during and after artifact’s development. The cases focus on the development of applications for people with some disabilities. The key results were obtained using the human work analysis approach. The challenges and barriers encountered during data gathering processes are summarized, as well as those observed in user’s interactions with artifacts.
