ABSTRACT

Bacterial diseases occur in reindeer, just as they occur in all animals. However, bacterial diseases in wild reindeer are not always easily detected. Reindeer roam in remote areas, where few people are present to observe disease. Diseased animals are often quickly taken care of by predators; however, if this is not the case, carcasses of deceased animals will readily be consumed by scavengers. Thus, many cases of bacterial disease may go unnoticed in wild reindeer populations.
