Abstract

The advancement in technology has improved industrial productivity and ignited the start of various industrial revolutions. The chapter highlighted the various industrial revolutions that happened in the history of civilization. The current revolution, i.e. Industry 4.0, has brought the smart factory concept into the center stage. Machines, components, people are connected and communicate through networks, and the production process is autonomous. Factories are becoming smarter, efficient, safer, and more eco-friendly with the use of the latest technologies. The Smart Industry concept is a flexible, continuous learning-based and adaptive manufacturing system within dynamic and frequently changing business conditions in a complex and competitive world. It is an automated factory that uses information technology to improve manufacturing resources and quality. The chapter covers the smart factory and various technologies that empower the concept for utilization of resources, energy, and space, thus enhancing productivity and reducing waste of materials and employing better sustainable and cleaner methods in the industry.
