ABSTRACT

184Animals of the genus Peromyscus are an uncommon, but useful, animal model with superficial similarity to the more commonly used laboratory mouse. The Peromyscus Genetic Stock Center (PGSC) serves as a repository for a number of different wild-type stocks of Peromyscus animals originating from varied habitats and localities. Current holdings include a variety of species in addition to coat-color and disease model mutants. Unlike laboratory mice, animals at the PGSC are bred to maintain genetic diversity, making them a unique and valuable resource for many different fields of study. Animals are shipped both nationally and internationally in support of scientific research.
