The goal of the current chapter is to describe the designer’s role in development, implementation, and evolution of the flight deck instruments and how the designs relate to the pilot’s existing, new, and evolving roles and responsibilities. The first half provides a brief overview of the history of flight deck design and relevant factors that influence design. The second half contains recommendations for design process and evaluation strategies, as well as a description of when and how new designs can be integrated into a flight deck.
