Four-dimensional (4D) dosimetry is the measurement of dose in three dimensions while the detector positions are changing with time during the dose delivery. The rationale for performing 4D dosimetry is that human anatomy, and specifically that of cancer patients, changes with time. These temporal changes in the three-dimensional (3D) anatomy have driven the development of 4D dosimetry.
