The self-controlled case series (SCCS) model uses only individuals with one or more events over the observation period. It may be derived from a Poisson cohort model by conditioning on the total number of events experienced by each individual. It automatically controls for all fixed confounders that act multiplicatively on the event intensity function (Farrington, 1995); farrin06.
