ABSTRACT
Food supply is essential for all living beings, including humans. This chapter is entitled “Food Supply” rather than “Agriculture” because procuring food is not always via agriculture. It may, and often does, include herding, gathering, or harvesting wild foods, and diverse forms of cropping or semi-cropping. However, agriculture is a central part of many food-supply systems, including in the United States, and will form the bulk of the discussion.
