ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how drone and field spectrometer datasets are currently collected and linked to airborne and satellite image datasets. A range of imaging and non-imaging spectrometers currently being flown on drone platforms, and their resultant datasets are reviewed. The field spectrometry scale of applications is fully operational, however the drone based applications are in an experimental phase. Non-imaging and imaging sensors are reviewed along with the types of processing required for linking field spectrometer and drone-based datasets to airborne and satellite image data. Examples of field-spectrometer and drone-based sensor datasets linked to satellite image data, are presented for modelling and simulation exercises or for calibration of empirical models and validation of the outputs from satellite-based data processing.
