ABSTRACT

2Biologic therapies for tissue repair and regeneration has been a topic of intense interest during the last 20 years. As we recognize the innate healing potential of the human body, the goal is to repair or replace damaged or diseased tissue with healthy and functional tissue that replicates the pre-injury state. The use of orthobiologics by trained providers has been the core of treatments and successful outcomes for many musculoskeletal conditions in patients. Continued research and technologic advances are making platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells increasingly effective and safe options for the clinical practice of regenerative orthopedics. In this chapter, we present current and potential future regenerative therapies for common musculoskeletal issues.
