ABSTRACT

Applications of conformal mapping to transmission systems cover a wide range of electrical engineering problems. For example, the power system engineer needs to know to what extent the nonlinear and frequency dependent characteristics of conductors and soils will affect the propagation of surges on very high-voltage lines. Communication engineers and their circuit designers cover the areas of maintaining low loss and low distortion transmission on lines, waveguides, or microstrip configurations. The problems of dielectric breakdown, power dissipation, and nonionizing electromagnetic radiation are important, and conformal mapping helps the analysis and synthesis of transmission systems.
