ABSTRACT

Medications, both prescription and over the counter, are used every day to treat acute and chronic illness. Research and technology constantly improve the drugs that have available and introduce new ones. Medications can help people live healthy lives for a prolonged period. Although medicines are prescribed often, it is important to realize that they must still be used with caution. Drug therapy becomes more complex when two drugs 460are administered in close sequence to each other. They may be interacting to enhance or diminish the intended effect of one or both the drug. A drug interaction may result into beneficial or desired effect or into adverse or undesired effect. Many studied demonstrated that patient receive multiple drug therapy to increase effectiveness, for example, potassium sparing diuretics in digitalis therapy. As the number of drug regimen increases, the risk of occurrence of toxicity becomes greater and less effective. Unfortunately drug interaction may be recognized only when sever toxicity occurs, for example, a hypertensive crisis may occurs when monoamino oxidase inhibitor like tranycypromine, and methamphetamine are used together.
