ABSTRACT

Although polarizing glass is not a photosensitive glass as we defined it initially in this book, nonetheless it is a very close relative in that it involves the manipulation of Ag nanoparticles to produce a polarizing effect. In one important example to be covered below; namely, the infrared polarizer Polarcor™, the polarizing property is derived directly from a photochromic glass composition.1 The major application for this product is for optical isolators for lasers in a communication network.
