Abstract

Overdevelopment of groundwater resources to meet the increase demand for drinking, industries, irrigation, and other purposes is ever-growing in developed and developing countries. The overdevelopment of groundwater resources leads to the decline of water level and thereby causes socioeconomic and environmental degradation. It is, thus, imperative to manage the groundwater resources in an optimal manner. Management schemes can be evolved, only if the groundwater potential is assessed in a more realistic manner. Mathematical modeling in conjunction with detailed field investigations has been proved to be a potential tool for this purpose. Evolving predevelopment management schemes still work out to be a better choice. One such study was carried out in Boro River valley, Okavango Delta, Botswana. The River Boro emerges from the Okavango swamps in the northwestern part of Botswana.
