ABSTRACT

Having discussed demonstrations and design approaches for all parts of a single processing-network node, we now move on to full networks. This chapter discusses results and future directions for designing integrated photonic broadcast-and-weight networks. First, systems with a single broadcast waveguide will be considered in both star and broadcast loop (BL) topologies. Network compatible versions of MRR weight banks are introduced, and weight controlled dynamics of an autapse network is demonstrated. Then, this chapter will consider systems that reuse wavelength channels across multiple broadcast loop waveguides (i.e., multi-BL systems). Multi-BL systems provide a potential route to tremendous scalability but require novel approaches intersecting photonic and neural networking. Architectural design rules and analysis of multi-BL systems are introduced.
