ABSTRACT

The discovery of two-dimensional (2D) titanium carbide in 2011 1 opened the door for a whole family of 2D transition-metal carbides and carbonitrides, 2 which has expanded dramatically to close to 20 different compositions since that time. There have been few comprehensive progress reports and review articles about this new family of materials. 3–5 In this chapter, different synthesis approaches of this rapidly growing family of materials are discussed in detail, in addition to their experimentally resolved structure and measured properties.
