Since time immemorial, vision has attracted the curiosity of human beings. Almost from the early beginnings of the development of science, the study of the eye and the sense of vision have occupied an eminent place. The tremendous advance of the technology in the last decades has changed how classic questions about vision are addressed. The conventional division of vision into three stages, that is, optical, neural, and psychological stages, has now been fortunately surpassed. Interdisciplinary research employing methods from distinct fields is mandatory in many cases to understand the complex puzzle of vision as a whole. In this context, one of the most successful examples of merging different disciplines to understand vision as a whole is adaptive optics (AO) visual testing. In this modality, vision and optics are beautifully combined. AO visual testing enables to fully characterize the impact of the optical quality of the retinal images in vision. AO visual testing provides the most powerful tool for the design of new optical solutions to correct our vision from refractive problems. In this chapter, a comprehensive review of some of the most important results obtained in AO visual testing, together with some important aspects of the required technology, is presented. Binocular AO visual testing, a new and promising modality emerging in this fascinating field, is presented in deeper detail.
