Laser Ultrasonic Imaging for Damage Visualization and Damage Accumulation Evaluation

Developing advanced nondestructive evaluation (NDE) to detect possible damages is of great importance for various engineering structures to keep its safety and reliability. Several detecting techniques including ultrasonic C-scan, ¹ ultrasonic Lamb wave technique, ² X-ray inspection, ³ thermography, ⁴ eddy-current detection, ⁵ and so on have been proposed and developed. Among them, the ultrasonic-wave-based techniques show its great potential in NDE industry due to their effectiveness of estimating the location, type, and size of damages. ^{6 – 10}
