ABSTRACT
The discussion in this chapter is focused on the SMR designs which form the basis for significant interactions between the designer and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC), that is, the designs developed by mPower, NuScale, and Westinghouse. These designs are light water reactors (LWRs) and have many design features characteristic of the advanced LWRs. A fourth SMR design, the SMR-160 Holtec LWR design, will not be addressed since it is not as mature and has had only very preliminary interactions with the USNRC.
