Abstract

This chapter aims at providing an overview of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) principles and algorithms. The reader who is interested in having further details on SAR is invited to consult [18], [10], [11], [4], [5], [8], [6]. SAR is a signal processing technique applied to coherent radars for remote sensing applications with the capability of effectively imaging areas in all-weather/all-day conditions. In the last few decades, SAR systems have been widely employed for different applications, such as 2D/3D mapping of the Earth's surface, climate change research, environmental monitoring and security-related applications [14, 9, 1].
