Abstract

With the fundamentals and principles of weather radar polarimetry covered in Chapters 2 to 4 and our knowledge of the estimation and improvement of PRD in Chapter 5, we are now ready to discuss how to use PRD for weather studies. This chapter deals with the applications of PRD in weather observation, classification, quantification, and forecast. It describes polarimetric radar signatures for specific weather types, fuzzy logic classification of radar echoes, QPE, retrieval of rain DSD, attenuation correction, and microphysics parameterization for improving weather quantification.
