The Estonian studio Tallinnfilm opened in September 1957, under the direction of puppet animator Elbert Tuganov (Baku, Azerbaijan, 22 February 1920–Tallinn, Estonia, 22 March 2007). He had studied cinema and photography in Berlin before World War II; in 1946, he joined Estonia’s state film studio, Tallinnfilm. For eleven years he drew, painted and shot titles and credit sequences.
