Abstract

The Johnson system of distributions consist of families of distributions that, through specified transformations, can be reduced to the standard normal random variable. The method of using transformations in connection to the normal distribution was initiated by Edgeworth (1898) who restricted himself to polynomial transformations. Subsequent researchers studied the use of transformations that are based on transcendental functions.
