ABSTRACT

In general, qualification is the process of demonstrating that an entity is capable of meeting or exceeding the specified requirements, which include requirements of performance, quality, reliability, environments, and safety [1]. This chapter will address the qualification approach and methodology for extreme environment electronics, defined as the electronic technologies, components, and their packaging systems capable of operating in the environments lying outside the domain of conventional commercial or military specifications, that is, operations either down to very low temperatures such as −270°C, or up to as high temperatures as 500°C, or much wider temperature range beyond −55°C to 125°C, and/or with exposure to radiation, pressures, etc. [2–7].
