ABSTRACT
The anatomy of a generic dc/ac power electronics system is presented in Figure 61.1. The elements of this generic power electronics system can be grouped into the following categories: power devices, power filtering components (i.e., magnetic and capacitors), control and sensing electronics (i.e., DSP/microcontroller, current and voltage sensors, signal condition and gate driver circuit or ICs, housekeeping supply, etc.), cooling system (i.e., heat sink, fans, cold plate, etc.), and housing (i.e., enclosure/package, connectors etc.). When operating in extreme environments (i.e., high or cold temperature, high radiation, vibration, g-force, pressure, humidity, etc.), all these elements must be designed and sized with the particular extreme environment in mind.
