Abstract

Electronic system design methods are in constant evolution with access to technologies enabling the creation of increasingly complex circuits that not only are miniaturized and consume less energy at the same time but also provide more functionality. The design and prototyping phases of today’s systems represent a significant part of the overall cost of many products, particularly when production volumes are moderate or low. At the printed circuit board (PCB) level, it is common to deal with complex integrated circuits (ICs) where the prototyping of such circuits is a long and expensive process, even when abstracted models are used. The DreamWafer project proposes a new approach to the rapid prototyping of electronic systems with a wafer-scale prototyping platform called WaferBoard [1].
