In the past decade, a great deal of research has been conducted in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). One important part of a WSN node is its communication interface. In the early days of WSN, these communication interfaces were not standardized. But today, standardized communication interfaces, which are in line with machine-to-machine (M2M) communication requirements (self-describing interfaces, self-organizing, and self-healing), are required to build the foundation of the Internet of Things (IoT) or Web of Things.
