Abstract

Building automation systems (BASs) are historically grown systems. The core domains of BAS are heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) as well as lighting and shading applications. Nowadays, BASs are a well-established way to provide automatic control of indoor conditions in functional buildings [4]. The overall aim is to improve comfort, save energy, and thereby reduce costs arising during the lifetime of a building [1,5]. Relatively new fields of operation where BAS gain importance are security applications like access control. Also, safety-critical applications like fire alarm systems are more and more integrated.
