Abstract

BACnet (Building automation and control networks), as the name implies, is a communication protocol specifically designed for the purpose of building automation. Since the committee SSPC 135 within the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) started the specification activities in 1987, BACnet was continuously maintained and extended. Right after the first publication in 1995, BACnet became ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standard and has meanwhile become part of the ISO-Norm 16484 (part 5, BACnet Standard, and part 6, Conformance Testing Standard).
