Abstract

We present a model in which individuals can have multiple membership into “pure types” defined by ways of evolving over time. This modeling strategy allows us to use longitudinal data on several subjects to isolate and characterize a few typical trajectories over time, and to soft cluster individuals with respect to them. We present these methods in the context of an application to the study of patterns of aging in American seniors.
