Through road location, the designer chooses the best corridor for the road; through geometric design, the designer lays out the alignment of the route’s centerline on the ground within the corridor. One first does the road location, selecting/defining a corridor, and then does the geometric design for the alignment within the corridor. This chapter covers road location, and then chapters on road classification and geometric design follow, classification being a prerequisite to geometric design.
