ABSTRACT

Energy-efficient communication is crucial in wireless sensor network (WSN), which can have many effective applications in the medical field, in order to enable that the WSNs can be deployed for long periods without battery replacement or charging. Typically, wireless transceiver consumes most of the sensor nodes’ energy resources [1–7]; therefore, a careful design must be performed for communication techniques and protocols. Indeed, a huge amount of research work has been carried out during the past decade to improve the energy efficiency by optimizing protocols using a layered and cross-layer approach.
