ABSTRACT

A joint labor/management (L/M) committee is a formal committee that is organized to address specific issues such as safety and health or production processes. It is a committee with equal representation, which gives both parties an opportunity to talk directly to each other and educate each other concerning the problems faced by either group. In contrast, labor-only or management-only committees have self-serving goals with no consensus on solving problems. They are the only ones who have the authority or power to make changes. Thus, joint committees are aimed at gaining solutions, ensuring equal participation, and having some degree of authority or power.
