ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a self-contained review of failure rate and failure-counting software reliability models, including a mathematical review and overview of estimation techniques. The Jelinski–Moranda model is provided as an example of a failure rate model, and the Goel–Okumoto model is provided as an example of a failure-counting model. Measures of goodness of fit are provided to compare the relative abilities of two or more models to characterize a failure dataset.
