ABSTRACT

Nowadays, railways are expected to operate with ever-increasing levels of reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety. In this chapter, we present an overview of methods for modeling reliability of European Train Control System (ETCS), including fault tree, reliability block diagram, Petri net, Bayesian network, and Monte Carlo simulation. A case study of ETCS is carried out to illustrate the analyses based on different methods. Reliability analysis results are compared, and then the effectiveness and limitations of the methods are identified.
