ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the concept of human reliability and outlines its development on overall system risk. It shows the importance and impact of human reliability in design on projects based on historical failures. It describes key indicators on human failure and the requirements used to develop reliable human interfaces and reduce human error.

The chapter also summarizes current techniques and tools used to assess human reliability. It also outlines how the integration of human reliability into a reliability, availability, and maintainability and safety process can be achieved to support the organization. It also looks at future trends in human reliability and applications in rail.
